Jorrit Dijkstra - Sopranosaxophone, Clarinet, Tin-Whistle Rutger van Otterloo - Altosaxophone, Sopranosaxophone Frans Vermeerssen - Tenorsaxophone, Sopranosaxophone Eckard Koltermann - Baritonsaxophone, Bassclarinet The Dutch-German woodwind quartet was formed in 1995 and has been performing since in concertseries and at festivals in Germany and the Netherlands. The Stratos Saxophone Quartet distinguishes itself from other more conventional saxophone quartets by the frequent change of instrumentation during one performance and by the unusual instrumentation itself (tin-whistle, baritone sax). Their repertoire consists partly of original compositions and arrangements of the band members and partly of compositions by composers such as Guus Janssen or Django Bates. In their music they search for a synthesis between composed new music and improvisation. All four members of Stratos have bands of their own and are in demand soloists in the European improvisers scene. They bring their years of experience into this reed quartet by combining the sound of new music with the agile playing idiom inspired by Jazz. |
