Karina Erhard began studying the flute at the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover" with Lorenz Hellgardt. Following this, she continued her studies in the flute class of Harrie Starreveld at the Sweelinck Conservatory, Amsterdam, where she also received lessons from Dieks Visser and Emily Beynon. In 1999 she graduated from the Sweelinck with her teaching diploma, after which she progressed into the Second Phase program at the Conservatory of Utrecht under the tutelage of Nine Sligter. During this study, Karina specialised in the performance of contemporary chamber music and was awarded her performance diploma in 2001. In addition, she has participated in master classes with Vincent Cortvrient, Patric Gallois and Robert Dick. In 1997 and 1998 Karina performed as a soloist with the Schönborn String Orchestra. Since 1999 she has been an active participant in the course "Contemporary music through non-western techniques" at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Karina Erhard is currently performing a lot of chamber music with various ensembles, and other than the KAIDA Trio, she works in particular with trios for flute/cello/piano and flute/viola/harp, as well as a flute and guitar duo. Aside from her performance activities, Karina is also teaching in Amsterdam. Fie Schouten received her First Phase Diplomas in Clarinet (1999) and Bass Clarinet (2001) at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Presently she continues her advanced studies with a specialization on bass clarinet and contemporary music with Harry Sparnaay, also at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. She has participated in masterclasses in Hungary, France (Pablo Casals Festival), Austria (Impuls, summer course for contemporary music) and Germany (Darmstadt Festival for new music). She has played in orchestras including the Dutch National Youth Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra, Het Nieuw Ensemble, Nederlands Promenade Orkest and the Musica Ducis Brabantia. Chamber music is also an important part of her career. She is co-founder and member of the KAIDA Trio (flute, bass clarinet, piano), "To be Sung" (soprano, clarinet, cello), and she plays in various ensembles and in combination with dance. Along with performing, Fie Schouten is a clarinet teacher at the music school in Castricum. |
