Furthermore: be it poetry, drama, film, dancing or musical theatre normally Koltermann is looking for the mutual penetration of music and word, portrayal, motion, performance or image. Having made lots of compositions for stage and screen, after decades of working with big ensembles (Grubenklangorchester, Collage 11&12, Contraband, WDR Big Band) and small, chamber music - like ensemble settings (KoKoKo, CL4, German Clarinet Duo) he surprises with a pure jazz quartet: a reed player with a rhythm section. Anyway, bass clarinet and baritone saxophone normally dont get used as front instruments in an acoustic quartet. They dip the music into dark woody colors, allowing the quartet to create its characteristical sound. The reedist Koltermann is allowed many a twinkling bow at elders such as Eric Dolphy or Gerry Mulligan.
order nr.: NRW 3035 "Here Comes The Moon", and everybody is reminded of "Here Comes The Sun" by George Harrison. Eckard Koltermann first thought of the Moon of Wanne-Eickel. Whenever he looked at the picture of the red moon, created by Jürgen Grislawski and situated over his writing desk, he was reminded of the hymn concerning his hometown. The image finally inspired him with the composition becoming the title piece of his new quartets debut album. And you will find the picture on the cover of this CD. |
