Tobias Klein was born in Saarbrücken (Germany) in 1967. He moved to Amsterdam in 1990 and studied saxophone with Jasper Blom and bass clarinet with Harry Sparnaay at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam. As (co-) leader he is active in the groups Man Bites Dog and Dalgoo. Other current projects are Deep Fried Angel Fish, the JG Quintet and 'Heerser der Wereld'. He has performed at, among others, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the MamaJazz Festival in Vilnius, the Girona Jazz Festival, the Open Air Jazz in Hamburg; and he has toured all over Europe, in India, Russia and Suriname. In Amsterdam, Klein is part of a generation of musicians who are trained in both improvised and classical music, and who have looked deeply into techniques and concepts derived from african, eastern european and asian music. He has played with a.o. John Zorn, Chris Speed en Benoît Delbecq. Klein's work as a composer is supported by the Dutch Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst since 1999. He is co-founder of the Amsterdam musicians' collective and record label TryTone. Tenor Saxophonist Lothar Ohlmeier currently lives in London. His current projects are Tjitze Vogels 'Vogelquartet', NINSK; and the trio Aziluth! with pianist Julie Sassoon with which he has lately recorded the cd 'To The Power Of Three' for Babel Records and played at the most important festivals in the UK, such as the London Jazz Festival at the Royal Festival Hall, the Bridgewater Hall Manchester Jazz Festival, the Bath International Music Festival, the Chard Festival and the Babel Festival London. Lothar Ohlmeier has performed with, among others, Jorrit Dijkstra, Jim Black and Guillaume Orti. He was soloist in Theo Loevendies 'Bons' for Chamber Orchestra and improvising musician. Dalgoo is an initiative of double bass player Meinrad Kneer. He also plays with the trio vanVeenendaal/Kneer/Sun, Paul Pallesen's 'Bite the Gnatze', Augusto Forti's 'Gravitones & Strings' , Nathan Fuhr's Collision Palace, Raj Mohan's 'Vistar', Steven Kamperman's Labyrinth, Gijs Levelt's 'Deep Fried Angel Fish' and 'Heerser der Wereld'. Next to playing jazz and improvised music he is also involved in classical music. He has been heard with different projects on the radio and in the TV program 'Reiziger in Muziek'. He has performed with among others Han Bennink, Fred Frith, Najma Akhtar,Tristan Honsinger, Michael Vatcher, Ab Baars, Tobias Delius, Anne la Berge, Barana &Co, the AXYZ-Ensemble, the bigtet Tetzepi and the Henneman Sringquartet. With Dalgoo and New Anatomy he was awarded the prestigious 'Jur Naessens Muziek Prijs' for the year 2002. His work as a composer is supported by the 'Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst. Drummer Milo Fell adds depth and worldiness with his stylish tinkly-bonks. Milo has played percussion/drums with Tim Whitehead, Don Weller, Bobby Wellins, Pocket Central, Sounds Of Senegal, Sabar Drum Orchestra, Rare Birds, Cinematic Orchestra, Future Shock, Doreen Edwards, Kelly Dixon, Brigitte Escobar, Jon Thorne's Mingus Band, Bruce Adams, Jean Toussaint, Byron Wallen, Martin Shaw, and is a founder member of the highly acclaimed Clarke/Thorne/Fell Trio. He played on Tim Whitehead's "Personal Standards" album - named BBC Music Magazine's CD of the Year and gigged at Ronnie Scott's with Andrew Coleman (Young Jazz Musician of the year 99), Colin Riley and Tim Whitehead's 'Tides'. |
